Session: Triassic Training
Join the Jurassic Coast Trust in a training session about the Triassic. Led by Sam Scriven (Earth Science Advisor at the Jurassic Coast) and Roger Trend (Sidmouth Museum), this full day will explore the evolution of the Triassic system, including sand dunes, flash floods, braided streams and playa lakes.
Overview:
- We commence our look at the Triassic era at Budleigh Salterton, home of the famous “Budleigh Bun” pebbles.
- We then continue to Branscombe, looking at the Murcia mudstone, gypsum deposits and unconformity. We’ll have lunch here – a chance to ask any questions that have arisen from the morning’s session.
- We then head to Sidmouth, aiming to reach the beach’s fantastic set of archosaur footprints within the Otter sandstone by 3pm.
- We finish up our Triassic journey at Sidmouth Museum, exploring their fascinating fossil collection and the history of palaeontology in the area.
