300 million years ago, predatory dragonflies the size of modern seagulls ruled the air. Today dragonflies in the UK have a wing span of up to 5 inches, but fossilised dragonflies have been found with wingspans of up to two feet.

Did you know that nearly all of the dragonfly’s head is the eye? Most insects have multifaceted eyes – house flies for example have roughly 6,000 eye facets giving them a panoramic view of their surroundings but dragonflies are even more impressive with over 30,000 individual facets!
